Background: NEW TRAINING METHODS GAVE NORWAY A SPECTACULAR VICTORY OVER RUSSIA IN THEIR TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL SPEED-SKATING MATCH WHICH ENDED IN OSLO YESTERDAY.WORLD RECORDS WERE SHATTERED AS THE NORWEGIANS WON THE MATCH BY 215 POINTS TO 109
IN THE 1,500 METRES, NORWAY TOOK THE FIRST SIX PLACES, WITH KNUT JOHANNESEN CROSSING THE FINISHING LINE FIRST IN TWO MINUTES 10.3 SECONDS.THIS WAS CONFIRMED AS A NEW NORWEGIAN RECORD TIME.

THE 10,000 METRES MARATHON WAS WON BY NORWAY'S FRED MAIER IN 15 MINUTES 49.7 SECONDS.THIS, TOO, WAS A NEW NORWEGIAN RECORD, AND ONLY 3.1 SECONDS OUTSIDE THE THREE YEAR OLD WORLD RECORD.SECOND WAS MAGNE THOMASSEN, AND THIRD, TORSTEIN SEIERSTEN - BOTH OF NORWAY.THE BEST RUSSIAN WAS FIFTH.

EXPERTS SAID THAT THE SENSATIONAL RESULTS, WHICH SHATTERED ALL PREVIOUS STANDARDS FOR SPEED SKATING, WERE MAINLY DUE TO A NEW TRAINING METHOD DEVELOPED IN NORWAY.THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE RESULT OF THE 5,000 METRES IN WHICH THE FIRST FOUR - ALL NORWEGIANS - BROKE THE WORLD RECORD.
