In an attempt to defuse the tension between the United States and Iran over the holding of forty-nine American hostages in Teheran, the United Nations Security Council considered debating the issues. While U.S. Navy ships and aircraft carriers steam toward Iranian water, the Ayatollah Khomeini called on Iran's youth to prepare to fight. On Monday (26 November) the Iranian leader said in an exclusive interview with NHK Television, Japan, that his country would boycott the U.N. debate unless the question of the deposed Shah was included.
