  • Description

Chief Minister Matanzima of the Transkei African homelands in South Africa said in an interview on Wednesday (May 22) that he had always considered the Transakei lands belonged to his people.

Although Transkei is advancing towards independence which South Africa has promised the homelands, there is still some argument about how much land it should claim.

Various committees are currently working on a new constitution for Transkei.

Chief Matanzima also referred to the low wages paid to African workers from the homelands - some of them well below the "Poverty line".

Mr. Lindsay also spoke to Knowledge Guzana, leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly.
