    Background: U.S. Secretary of State, Mr William Rogers, arrived in Beirut the Lebanese capital on Monday (3 May) amid widespread anti-American demonstrations. Mr Rogers, on the third leg of a Middle-East peace mission, spent nearly two hours in discussions with President Suleiman Franjeih. The continuous demonstrations were the most vociferous and highly organised of his tour to this stage.
