Background: Hundreds of Greek Cypriots marched through Nicosia on Thursday (5 September) in an emotional appeal for, prompt action over their husbands and sons who are missing without trace. Twenty days after the ceasefire ended the Cyprus fighting, 3,189 Greek Cypriots are still unaccounted for.

Women, many dressed in black, screamed and wailed: "We want our husbands", "Give us our sons."
The anguish of the relatives of the missing was heightened before the march set off by a Government announcement, broadcast by Cyprus Radio, accusing the Turks of at least four separate massacres of greek Cypriots in various Turkish occupied parts of the Island.

The statement said evidence gathered by police showed that at least 13. Greeks, including children, women and men up to the age of 90, were murdered in cold blood by Turks up to August 17.

Thursday's demonstrates delivered petitions to the Red Cross, the office of the President Clerides and the Greek Embassy.
