For most of her life, Mrs. Lee Jung-wol worked as a kitchen maid or factory hand and as a pedlar. Now, at the age of 73, she owns a high school.
During fifty years of work, Mrs. Lee saved up 50-million Won (about 130,000 US Dollars), enough to buy land and build the Myeongsin Girls' Commercial High School on the outskirts of Inchon.
Mrs. Lee was born into a poor family and didn't have a proper education. She married young but her husband died before they were able to have children.
For the next fifty years she worked hard to save as much as she could.
In middle-age she decided that "knowledge was power" and the idea of opening a school for girls came to her.
So, earlier this year, Mrs. Lee built and opened the school which now has 120 students. They all come from poor families and are taught such skills as typing and shorthand.
Mrs. Lee is executive director of the school. She says she is no longer lonely or unhappy because, as she puts it, she now has 120 daughters.
