Background: The Sword of Democles which overshadows this part of the world makes every reasonable Government to take drastic measures of precautions for the defense of its national territory. The recent events of Cyprus, the obscure situation of the Near East and the existing greco-turkish tension has had as a result the taking of certain precautionary measures by both ex-friendly nations (Greece and Turkey), in the Sea and Land.
The antagonism in the Sea anyhow is still going on with intensity and the Greek Government, on suggestion of the Hellenic Naval Staff and with the acknowledgement of NATO, has announced a five-year naval plan which will strengthen the power of the Greek Fleet and which foresees the increase of its units by 12 destroyers, 4 submarines and 12 other auxiliary craft.
In the meantime, new crews are getting trained on new-type submarines as the "Poseidon" and "Amphitriti" are, manoeuvering in Northern Aegean. We were allowed to follow one of these training yesterday.
