    SOME OF AUSTRALIA'S BEST KNOWN RADIO AND TELEVISION STARS GAVE A CONCERT AT NUI DAT, SOME 45 MILES NORTHEAST OF SAIGON ON CHRISTMAS DAY BEFORE 1,500 AUSTRALIAN TROOPS.

    THE ARTISTS INCLUDED THE AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING COMMISSION'S DANCE BAND UNDER THE BATON OF JIM GUSSEY, LORRAE DESMOND, LUCKY STARR, BEV HARRELL, LUCKY GRILLS AND THE NEW CARD TRIO.

    FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS THEY SANG, DANCED AND PLAYED AS BARE-BACKED TROOPS CLAPPED AND EXCHANGED COMMENTS WITH THOSE ON STAGE. IT WAS ONE OF THE FEW CONCERTS IN WHICH THE TROOPS PARTICIPATED IN COMMUNITY NUMBERS AT THE INVITATION OF THE ARTISTS.

    THE CHRISTMAS DAY PERFORMANCE WAS THE FIRST OF TWO CONCERTS AT NUI SAT BY THE CONCERT PARTY AND AFTER EACH PERFORMANCE, THEY WERE THE GUESTS OF MEN OF THE 2ND AND 7TH BATTALIONS OF THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT.

    FOR JIM GUSSEY, IT WAS HIS THIRD SUCCESSIVE CHRISTMAS CONCERT PARTY FOR TROOPS IN VIETNAM.
