    PRINCE CHARLES, THE 21 YEAR OLD HEIR TO THE BRITISH THRONE, LEFT THE ROYAL TOUR OF AUSTRALIA ON THURSDAY (8 APRIL) FOR A FIVE DAY VISIT TO JAPAN TO SEE THE EXPO 70 WORLD FAIR AT OSAKA.

    AFTER A BRIEF STAY IN TOKYO, HE ARRIVED AT THE SITE EARLY SATURDAY (11 APRIL) FOR A FULL DAY'S VISIT. HIS FIRST STOP WAS THE NEW ZEALAND PAVILION WHERE HE HAD BREAKFAST BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE BRITISH AND JAPANESE PAVILIONS. IN SPITE OF HEAVY DOWNPOURS THROUGHOUT THE DAY HE MANAGED TO SEE ABOUT 10 NATIONAL PAVILIONS.

    THE PRINCE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY ONLY TWO BRITISH OFFICIALS AND DELIGHTED EVERYONE HE MET WITH HIS INFORMALITY AND INTEREST IN VARIOUS EXHIBITS. HE RETURNS TO LONDON FROM TOKYO ON APRIL 15.

    MEANWHILE THE QUEEN, PRINCE PHILIP AND PRINCESS ANNE CONTINUED THEIR NATIONWIDE TOUR OF AUSTRALIA. ON SUNDAY (12 APRIL) THEY BEGAN A VISIT TO QUEENSLAND AMID TIGHT SECURITY PRECAUTIONS AFTER TELEPHONE THREATS TO SHOOT THE QUEEN.
