  • Description

The Monastery of Yuste has been carefully repaired by the Ministry of National Education with the aim of endowing it with an atmosphere propitious to recall the Great Emperor Charles.

This is the slope which was made to avoid the Emperor having to go up the stair-case.

H.E. the Chief Executive, accompanied by the Members of the Cabinet and of the Council of the Realm and other dignitaries is going to preside the closing act organized on the occasion of the quater-centenary of the death of Charles V. On reaching the church the Generalissimo kisses the crucifix.

Near the effigy and the tablet evoking the Emperor, the Minister of National Education gives a report of the works of reconstruction of the Monastery and of its artistic repair after the Spanish Civil War.

Among the personalities is the Belgian Minister of Education and the burgomasters of Gant and Bruges.

This is the Emperor's desk ... and this his chair where he used to sit to read and meditate the last years of his life. In his room are several souvenirs and objects associated with the last melancholic hours of his life. From here Charles V contemplated the panorama of Extremadura.

The Generalissimo and his retinue visit the cloister of the Monastery of the Hyeronimites.
