  • Description

In a quiet and generally uninspiring game, Tottenham Hotspurs and Ipswich drew one-all in their football League clash on Tottenham's home grounds, Whitehead Lane, in London on Saturday (February 23).

Despite a poor start, Spurs - one goal down in the first half - fought back in the second half to equalise in the 54th minute.

The match, played in brilliantly fine weather, was watched with more than special interest by a foreign guest - Manager Cik Cajkovski of the Cologne F.C., who are to be Spurs' opponents in next month's EUFA Cup quarter finals.

SYNOPSIS: Tottenham Hotspurs, one of England's great football clubs, kicks off in their Saturday match against Ipswich in London.

In a generally uninspiring and quiet game the two teams drew one-all with the best displays of football being given by the two goalkeepers, Jennings and Sivell.

Throughout the first half Ipswich was generally the dominant team, making many scoring runs but failing to finalise them.

With Spur's forwards putting up a sluggish performance, Ipswich tried repeatedly to score but were thwarted by the spirited play of Spur's defenders.

Then in the 24th minute, Morris cloared the bell to right-winger Hamilton who headed it into the 18 yard area. Temporarily unmarked Trevor Whymark sent a hard drive into the right hand corner of the net.

In the second half Spurs began the long fight back, repeatedly attacking the Ipswich goal, but each time being defeated by the brilliant goalkeeping of Sivell. Their equaliser finally came from a well-placed throw-in in the 54th minute. In the confused play which followed, John Pratt drove the ball firmly past Sivell for Spur's only goal.
