    M. PAUL REYNAUD, THE FRENCH PRIME MINISTER WHEN HIS COUNTRY WAS OCCUPIED BY THE NAZIS IN 1940, WAS BURIED IN PARIS TODAY. HE DIED ON WEDNESDAY (21 SEPTEMBER) AT THE AGE OF 87 AFTER UNDERGOING AN OPERATION.

    THERE WERE 1,000 PEOPLE AT THE SIMPLE FUNERAL SERVICE FOR M. REYNAUD. THE FUNERAL ORATION WAS GIVEN BY M. BAUMGARTNER, A FORMER GOVERNOR OF THE BANK OF FRANCE AND ALSO A FORMER MINISTER OF FINANCE.

    GENERAL DE GAULLE, WHO AS AN UNKNOWN ARMY COLONEL WAS CALLED INTO M. REYNAUD'S CABINET IN 1940, WAS REPRESENTED AT THE FUNERAL BY M. GASTON PALEWSKI, THE CHAIRMAN OF FRANCE'S CONSTITUTIONAL COUNCIL.
