    DELEGATES FROM 12 AFRICAN COUNTRIES GATHERED IN ABIDJAN ON MONDAY FOR THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE AFRO-MALAGASY COMMON ORGANISATION (OCAM) SUGAR AGREEMENT. THE OCAM AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED IN TANARIVE IN 1965 TO PROTECT AND STABILISE THE AFRICAN SUGAR MARKET.

    THE COUNTRIES REPRESENTED IN THE OCAM AGREEMENT ARE CAMEROUN, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, CONG (BRAZZAVILLE), CONGO (KINSHASA), DAHOMEY, GABON, IVORY COAST, NIGER, RWANDA, SENEGAL, TOGO, UPPER VOLTA, AND MAURITANIA.

    THE CONFERENCE AGENDA INCLUDES THREE TOPICS: (1) THE FIXING OF FINANCIAL CONDITIONS FOR EQUALISATION OF SUGAR SUPPLIES OF THE BASIS OF DELEGATES REPORTS; (2) AID TO EXPORTING MEMBER COUNTRIES MADAGASCAR AND CONGO BRAZZAVILLE; (3) AND AN EXAMINATION OF THE PRESENT STATE OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET AND OF THE WORLD SUGAR AGREEMENT OF 1958. THE CONFERENCE ALSO APPOINTED ITS NEW OFFICERS.
