Background: On the occasion of the European Exhibition of Romanesque Art, sponsored by the Council of Europe, the Monastery of San Cugat Del Valles, lasted at a distance of 20 Kms. from Barcelona, has some to the limelight. Over the main door is the beautifully carved stone rose-window.

The Monastery was built in the 11th century and is a genuine archaeological jewel with Gothic supplements. Until the last century it was inhabited by a Beneletine Community and at present it has been converted into a parish church.

A wonderful Romanesque closer of the year 1013 is one of its most striking notes. The 145 capitals constitute an excellent proof of the fertile imagination of the artist those name, Arnal Gatell - typically Catalonian - is carved in a tablet.

A popular legend assets that the first printed book made in Spain in 1464 was printed in this Monastery.
