    Madame Nguyen Thi Bihn, South Vietnam's Foreign Minister has pledged during her visit to India that her country will help press for the withdrawal of United States' military bases from south-east Asia.

    Madame Binh has also revealed that a single delegation representing a unified Vietnam will participate in the August non-aligned nations' summit. She made the statement to the Indian News Agency Samachar after a 90 minute meeting with India's External Affairs Minister Yeshwantrao Chavan at the start of her official visit on Thursday (20 May). Mr. Chavan had earlier met Madame Binh at New Delhi airport.

    Madame Binh said the first session of the United National Assembly of Vietnam will be held in a month's time. The assembly will nominate a government and work out a new constitution for the whole of Vietnam.

    Madame Binh's remarks about United States' military withdrawal were made after her meeting with Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi on Friday. She said "We expressed our support for the struggle of the people of this region who are demanding the withdrawal of United States' military bases and their military presence in this area.

    Madame Binh has also had detailed discussions with Mr. Chavan and Mr. Gandhi about the non-aligned summit in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in an effort to contribute to the success of the conference and to strengthen the unity of the non-aligned movement.
