    Background: Mother Teresa, the 69-year-old Roman Catholic nun, has received her Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. In accepting the award for her work among the destitute of Calcutta she described it as a gift to the poor. The award ceremony was held in the old university in Oslo and presented by the Chairman of the Nobel committee.

    SYNOPSIS: Mother Teresa received her prize from Professor John Sannes.

    The Nobel Peace Prize is worth nearly two-hundred thousand dollars. Mother Teresa will use the money to continue her work among the poor. Her group the missionaries of Charity, feed and care for millions of people around the world. Before large group of invited guests, including Norway's King Olav, Mother Teresa repeated her simple message "the poor must know that we love them".

    Ever since winning the prize Mother Teresa has maintained she was "unworthy", but accepted it on behalf of the poor. This year a traditional part of the award ceremony, a formal dinner party did not take place. Instead Mother Teresa asked that the cost of staging it, some six-thousand dollars, be used to feed the hungry. She said the money would buy meals in Calcutta for up to 15-thousand people.
