    The Philippines parole board has recommended that Benjamin Mendoza, the Bolivian painter who attacked Pope Paul during his Eastern tour, be pardoned and sent back to his own country.

    But Mendoza, who is being held in a Manila jail, said that if the pardon was approved he would refuse it. He claims to have no desire to return to Bolivia.

    Mendoza spends most of his time painting and is said to be a model prisoner. Visnews cameraman Francisco Arcellana managed to film the jailed artist at work.
