  • Description

Day Two at Geneva May 12 as the Foreign Ministers and their aids met in second session - to solve the procedural problem of Poland and Czechoslovakia's participation.

Security police outnumbered newsmen at the entrance of the Palace of Nations. Reporters noted security measures were stricter than at the mid-1955 summit meeting at this lakeside city, quipped that since the nations are in search of peace nobody is going to shoot anybody.

Among the arrivals: East German Foreign Minister Lothar Bolz and Russian Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko. The East Germans use for transport three sedans, run on East German petrol - noted for its unusual odour. Gromyko uses a Zil, once named Zis until the S for Stalin fell into disrepute. Zil is a replica of a U.S.Packard.

Cameramen were not allowed to film the session. It lasted 45 minutes only, with the problem of participation unsolved. Lloyd of Britain came out with a smile for the cameras. He wears immaculate Foreign Office black, uses for travel a Humber limousine. Bolz and Gromyko hurried past, followed by France's Couve de Murville. He uses a luxury Citron DS19. Thirty minutes later, Mr.Herter wearing formal brown left in a big shining Cadillac.

Next day May 13 the Foreign Ministers were in session for two and a half hours - the longest so far - but found no compromise solution on the participation of Poland and Czechoslovakia.
