  • Description

    1.
SCU Mr Murtada, Egyptian Ambassador to Israel being interviewed
    2.02

SA'AD MURTADA: "Different culture doesn't in itself cause conflict, political or economic. But the consequences .. if this culture becomes in a way superior and if the other one becomes inferior, it's in a human being for a superior to try to abuse of the weakness of the other. So difference of culture, in itself does not necessarily mean a conflict but it may lead later on to conflict."

REPORTER: "Do you think there i an element of this in the Israeli-Arab conflict?"

SA'AD MURTADA: "In the Israeli-Arab conflict there was much more than a difference of culture. It is not the difference of culture that led to the conflict."

SA'AD MURTADA: "In the Israeli-Arab conflict there was much more than a difference culture. It is not the difference of culture that led to the conflict."

SA'AD MURTADA: "Not precisely, because I think that the two great cultures, the Arab civilisation and the Jewish very rich history, they can live together and they can live together and they can live in peace and there is no reason whatsoever to have a conflict because of this difference."

REPORTER: "What kind of a Middle East do you envisage, let's say from three years from now?"

SA'AD MURTADA: "I don't know, three years or more but anyway I am optimistic and I look forward for more countries joining Egypt in its peace efforts and try to create instead of the instability we have in the region, to create a kind of peaceful life, everybody's understanding the other, trying to settle differences through dialogue, through argument, through legal channels and international channels to attain our goals."
