  • Description

Rhodesia's Prime Minister, Ian Smith, has said his government has proof that a camp in Mozambique which was raided by Rhodesian forces, contained guerrillas and not refugees. Mr. Smith was speaking in Bulawayo on Friday (27 august) at a fete organised by the ruling Rhodesian Front Party. Documents referred to by Mr. Smith were produced to newsmen in the capital, Salisbury, the following day.

SYNOPSIS: Rhodesia has said that in the raid on the eight of August, troops killed some 300 African nationalist guerrillas and about 30 Frelimo soldiers from Mozambique. But both Mozambique and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, claim the camp contained refugees and that between 600 and 700 were killed. But Mr. smith said his government could prove the camps military status.
