    Air crew members of the Royal Jordanian airline Alia have been undergoing a course of military training to equip them for the increased demands of their work.

    The new policy was brought in by the airline to provide the air crews, most of whom are civilian, with the standard training received by all eligible Jordanian civilians.

    The course concentrates on bringing the crews up to full physical fitness and to acquaint them with the use of light weapons.

    Thirty-two air crew members took part in the first course which is due to graduate this week. For nine weeks, the trainees have been receiving intensive infantry training, including boxing, handfighting, weapon was and paratroop exercises.

    An official spokesman of the airline is reported to have said the training should provide increased security on Alia aircraft.
