The third artistic gymnastics competition for the World Cup has been held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with eleven countries taking part. The competitors represented the cream of the world gymnastics championships which took place in Strasbourg, France, last October. As expected, the keenest competition in the men's events was between the Soviet Union and Japan, with the Soviet girls again showing their superiority in the women's events.
SYNOPSIS: The venue for the finals was the sports stadium in Sao Paul Ibirapuera Park where a crowd of 12,000 spectators anxiously watched Eizo Kenmotzu of Japan go for a win in the men's horizontal bar event. There was disappointment for many as Kenmotzu was only able to manage seventh place.
Bob Conner of the United States fared better than the Japanese. He came second after a good performance on the parallel bars.
The Soviet girl, Natalia Shaposhnikova, also showed good form. She came second in the balance beam event.
