Background: The first British military mission to visit the country has been spending five days inspecting Ivory coast defence centres and meeting military chiefs.

The delegation, of II senior officers from Britain's Royal Military college, was led by Rear admiral A. Morton.

The mission arrived in Abidjan, capital of ivory coast, on Monday (25 September).

A highlight of their tour was a visit to a new port and urban complex at San Pedro, 500 miles (800 kms) south-west of Abidjan.

The port is one f the largest projects attempted by the Ivory Coast government and cost 11,5000 million Ivory coast france (???19 million sterling).

The port comprises facilities for expanding the country's overseas trade, a terminal for inland transport, and the creation of a town for at least 6,000 people.

The British mission was welcomed to the port by the Director-General of the San Pedro project, Mr. Emmanuel Dioulo.

The delegation also is visiting Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia during its tour.

SYNOPSIS: The new Ivory Coast town of San Pedro, five-hundred miles south-west of the capital of Abidjan, was the scene of a visit by a delegation of eleven senior officers from Britain's Royal Military College.

Welcomed by a group of traditional dancers, the mission was led by Rear Admiral A. S. Morton. There to greet the party was the Director-General of the San Pedro project, Mr. Emmanuel Dioulo.

The delegation spent five days from last Monday, inspecting Ivory Coast defence centres and meeting military chiefs. The visit to San Pedro was a highlight of their tour and gave them an opportunity to inspect one of the largest projects attempted by Ivory Coast Government. The port complex cost nineteen-million pounds sterling and comprises facilities for expanding the country's overseas trade, a terminal for inland transport, and the creation of a town for at least six-thousand people.
