Background: More than two-thousand South Vietnamese refugees who arrived in Guam yesterday (Monday) appear today to be the last out in fixed wing aircraft. These people got off the ground in Saigon just before the Communists launched heavy attacks on Tan Son Nhut airport and other locations in and around Saigon.

With these arrivals in Guam, the total number of refugees on the Pacific island is now approaching 25,000. The majority of them have gone to what's become known as "Tent City" -- a camp taking on a more permanent look each day.

Other facilities, including an abandoned hospital, tin military huts and a gymnasium continue to be packed but now more refugees are being taken out to the United States -- mostly Americans or their dependents over the weekend.

Those who will be staying only a short time on Guam will be housed in the tin barracks but these likely to be here for some time will stay in tent city. Most refugees interviewed in the camps yesterday said they were happy to be free and healthy.
