    VIOLENCE OUTSIDE NEW YORK'S CITY HALL - AS CIVIL RIGHTS DEMONSTRATIONS IN AMERICA'S LARGEST CITY CONTINUE.YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) POLICE ARRESTED NINE NEGRO DEMONSTRATORS WHO WERE CHAINING THEMSELVES TOGETHER.THE CORDON OF POLICE MOVED IN WHEN THE DEMONSTRATORS TRIED TO FASTEN THE END OF THEIR CHAINS TO PILLARS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CITY HALL ENTRANCE AND THEREBY BLOCK THE PASSAGE.TWO POLICE WERE REPORTED TO BE INJURED IN THE ENSUING SCUFFLE AS A CROWD NEARLY A 100 STRONG, WHO HAD EARLIER DEMONSTRATED AGAINST MAYOR ROBERT WAGNER, RUSHED TO THE AID OF THE CHAINED PICKETS.

    THE NINE ARRESTED DEMONSTRATORS WERE PART OF A GROUP OF 22 MEMBERS OF THE CONGRESS OF RACIAL EQUALITY WHO HAD CAMPED IN THE CITY HALL LOBBY FOR THE LAST SIX WEEKS.

    AS POLICE MOVED THE DEMONSTRATORS ON THERE WERE SHOUTS OF "MAYOR WAGNER MUST GO, GOVERNOR ROCKEFELLER MUST GO, JIM CROW MUST GO," OTHER DEMONSTRATORS CHANTED: "POLICE BRUTALITY MUST GO.
