  • Description

Crown Prince Sidi Muhammad, aged ten, flagged off the first of 66 cars at the start of the 16th Rally of Morocco in the capital, Rabat, on Wednesday (9 May).

Teams from 14 countries are competing in the 4,093 km (1,342 miles) four-day rally. The first vehicles were expected to cross the finishing line in Casablanca on Saturday (12 May).

The rally, held under the patronage of King Hassan II and organised by the Sporting Association of the Royal Automobile Club of Morocco, is in four stages -- from Rabat to Casablanca via fez and Marrakesh.

Among the leading world drivers in the rally is Shekkar Mehta -- winner of this year's East African Safari Rally -- who is driving a British-entered Datsun 240Z.
