  • Description

Two thousand Lebanese students took to the streets of Beirut on Monday (10 Jan) to protest against the third conference of the Lebanese Communist Party being held in the city.

As they marched towards the government buildings, the students carried anti-Communist placards and chanted their support for Lebanon.

A deputation saw the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr Saeb Salem, and told him that the delegates to the Communist conference did not believe in freedom - and as such, were a threat to liberty.

But Mr Salem told them his government was anxious to maintain freedom and said he did not believe the conference represented a threat to the Lebanese administration.
