  • Description

Fishermen lined the quayside at Aberdeen, Scotland, June 29, as the trawler "Mount Eden" brought ashore nineteen survivors, including a woman and a child, from the Icelandic motor cargo ship "Drangajokull".

Radio messages were received at the coast, June 28, saying that the 600-ton "Drangajokull" was in distress. When the Aberdeen trawler reached the scene - off Stroma in the Pentland Firth - the cargo ship had turned turtle and was sinking. Her passengers and crew - among them Captain Haukur Gudmundsson and his wife - were rescued from their life rafts.
