President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto of Pakistan has sworn in a ten-man cabinet. The oathtaking ceremony took place at 0300 hours on Friday, 24 December. No explanation was given for the unaccustomed hour, but it was assumed to be the earliest moment the President had been able to find in the hectic days since he took power three days earlier. The first cabinet meeting was held later the same day.
The President made a brief statement after the ceremony, referring indirectly to his talks with East Pakistan leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; he also said another East Pakistani might be added to the cabinet.
The were two representatives from East Pakistan at Friday's ceremony -- Vice-President Nurul Amin, and Raja Tridev Roy, who has been made Minister for Minority Affairs. The two men were the only candidates outside Sheikh Mujib's Awami League to win seats in East Pakistan in the 1970 elections.
