    IN THE SECOND RALLY, AT VICTORIA PARK RACECOURSE, SOME 70,000 SCHOOLCHILDREN WELCOMED QUEEN ELIZABETH AND HER HUSBAND, PRINCE PHILIP, AS THEY DROVE IN AN OPEN CAR.MANY OF THE CHILDREN HAD WAITED NEARLY TWO HOURS IN THE OPEN SUN WITH THE TEMPERATURE AT 100 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

    THE CHILDREN'S CHEERING REACHED A CRESCENDO AS THE ROYAL COUPLE MOUNTED THE OFFICIAL DAIS.A CHOIR OF 3,000 THEN SANG A PROGRAMME OF AUSTRALIA SONGS, INCLUDING ONE CALLED " I LOVE A SUNBURNT COUNTRY."
    IT WAS A PROUD MOMENT FOR ONE YOUNG SCHOOLGIRL WHO PRESENTED THE QUEEN WITH A BOUQUET OF LILLIUMS.BUT THROUGHOUT THE CEREMONY, AMBULANCE MEN WITH STRETCHERS WERE KEPT BUSY CARRYING AWAY CHILDREN WHO HAD COLLAPSED UNDER THE HEAT.

    PLANS FOR A CHILDREN'S RALLY IN SYDNEY HAVE SINCE BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE HIGH TEMPERATURES EXPECTED.
