    RENEWED ATTEMPTS TO SALVAGE TWO SHIPS WHICH HAD SUNK IN, AND PARTIALLY BLOCKED, THE ROTTERDAM WATERWAY, HAVE PROVED SUCCESSFUL.

    THE TWO SHIPS - THE GERMAN FREIGHTER 'HORNLAND', 4,234 TONS, AND THE FRENCH TANKER 'PRESIDENT PIERRE ANGOT', 2,746 TONS, COLLIDED AND SANK ON OCTOBER 28TH.

    THE HORNLAND CARRIED 36 CREW, 12 PASSENGERS, 24 COWS AND A GENERAL CARGO. THE PRESIDENT PIERRE ANGOT CARRIED A CREW OF 24. ALL CREW MEMBERS WERE SAVED.

    THE WRECKS HAD PRESENTED ONLY A SLIGHT OBSTACLE TO SHIPPING. THEY WERE LYING IN ABOUT FOUR FATHOMS (7 METRES) OF WATER.
