  • Description

YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) HUNDREDS OF DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED SILENTLY THROUGH THE STREETS TO TEL AVIV PROTESTING AGAINST CONDITIONS OF RUSSIAN JEWS AND ASKING THE U.S.S.R. TO ALLOW FREE EMIGRATION TO ALL JEWS WHO MIGHT WISH IT.

THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED POSTERS WRITTEN IN HEBREW READING: "LET MY PEOPLE GO." AFTER MARCHING THROUGH THE STREETS THEY DELIVERED PETITIONS OF THEIR CLAIMS TO THE EMBASSIES OF THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE, GREAT BRITAIN AND FINLAND (THE LATTER REPRESENTS RUSSIAN INTEREST IN TEL AVIV SINCE THE BREAKDOWN OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE U.S.S.R. AND ISRAEL IN JUNE 1967). THE SILENT DEMONSTRATION WAS CALLED BY THE GUSH-HERUT LIBERALIM (HERUT MOVEMENT AND LIBERAL PARTY), AND PASSED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
