    Visiting Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda began formal talks in New Delhi on Friday (January 24) with Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Both leaders were joined by Ministers as the discussions widened to include developments in Africa and the Indian Ocean.

    President Kaunda is visiting India to receive the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for his work in promoting international understanding. It is India's most prestigious award.

    His visit also coincides with India's silver jubilee of independence which falls tomorrow (January 26) and officials from both Indian an Zambian governments were hoping to finalise agreements on economic, technical and cultural affairs to be signed at that time.

    Yesterday's meetings in New Delhi were held at the home of Indian President Chavan.
