  • Description

Vatican priests in their cassocks looked into car bonnet, peered into luggage boots, questioned salesmen about door linings and draught strips, when the British Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders arranged a unique car show for the Vatican City. The show opened yesterday, June 9th, and lasted for two days.

It was suggested by the British Ambassador to the Vatican, Sir Marcus Cheke and was held in the grounds of his official residence. Chief Vatican visitor was Count Galsazzi, who is said to be the Pope's closest adviser at present.

Representatives from many sacred institutes and colleges saw a wide range of British motor vehicles -- 26 in all, including estate cars, lorries, famous British small cars, a Rolls Royce and a scarlet Austin-Healey sport special.
