    SURVIVORS OF A BUS CRASH WHICH KILLED 9 CANADIAN TOURISTS IN NORTHERN TANZANIA, WERE FLOWN INTO NAIROBI FOR TREATMENT.

    ON SUNDAY AUGUST 3, A COACH CARRYING 15 CANADIAN TOURISTS, ALL FROM VANCOUVER, PLUNGED OVER THE FAMOUS NGORONGORO CRATER AND FELL OVER 300 FEET.

    THE DRIVER AND EIGHT OF THE TOURISTS WERE KILLED. THE SEVEN SERIOUSLY INJURED SURVIVORS WERE RESCUED AFTER ONE OF THE SURVIVORS HAD REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS SUFFICIENTLY TO CLIMB THE RIFT WALL AND SEEK HELP.

    THE LEADER OF THE TOUR, MR. EDWIN PINDERGAST DIED, BUT HIS WIFE, ANITA, SURVIVED HIM. THE PARTY HAD CONSISTED OF THE PINDERGASTS AND 13 WOMEN. THEY HAD BEEN ON TOUR OF WEST AFRICA.

    THE TANZANIAN GOVERNMENT HAVE EXPRESSED "PROFOUND SHOCK" AT THE ACCIDENT.

    THE NGORONGORO, A NATIONAL GAME PARK, IS ONE OF THE GREAT NATURAL MARVELS OF THE WORLD. ITS VOLCANIC CRATER, THE SECOND BIGGEST ON EARTH, IS 200 FT. (ABOUT 60 METRES) DEEP AND 11 MILES IN DIAMETER. IT HOLDS A GREAT CONCENTRATION OF WILDLIFE.
