    THE PRESIDENT OF UPPER VOLTA, SANGOULE LAMIZANA, HAS INSPECTED THE GHANAIAN HYDRO-ELECTRIC PROJECT AT AKOSOMBO, ABOUT 70 MILES (112 KMS) NORTH-EAST OF ACCRA. THE PRESIDENT IS ON A NINE-DAY STATE VISIT TO THE WEST AFRICAN COUNTRY.

    GHANA HAS BEEN HAVING DISCUSSIONS WITH UPPER VOLTA AND OTHER NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES, INCLUDING TOGO AND DAHOMEY, TO SELL THEM POWER FROM THE AKOSOMBO HYDRO-ELECTRIC STATION. WITH PRESIDENT LAMIZANA ON THE TOUR IS FOREIGN MINISTER MALICK ZOROME, OF UPPER VOLTA, WHO DESCRIBED THE PROJECT AS A GREAT WEST AFRICAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

    AT AKOSOMBO, THE PRESIDENT WAS WELCOMED BY THE PRESIDENT OPERATIONS ENGINEER, MR. E.A. MENSAH, AND THE CHAIRMAN OF THE EASTERN REGION COMMITTEE OF ADMINISTRATION, MR. DZANSI. THE PRESIDENT WAS DRIVEN TO THE DAM SITE FOR GENERAL VIEW AND THEN LOOKED AT MODEL OF THE AREA.

    AFTER TOURING THE HYDRO-ELECTRIC PROJECT, THE PARTY LEFT FOR THE BOTANICAL GARDENS AT ABURRI, WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL JOSEPH ANKRAH. THEY WERE WELCOMED BY THE CHIEF PARKS AND GARDENS OFFICER, MR G.K.A. AMOAH, AND TAKEN ON A TOUR OF THE 140-ACRE RESERVE.
