  • Description

Jordan was not prepared to make the slightest concessions where Palestinian rights were concerned, said King Hussein on Wednesday (1 November) when opening a new session of Jordanian Parliament in Amman.

In his official speech from the throne, the King blamed Israel for the failure to bring peace to the Middle East. Peace had already been achieved, he said, or was on the point of being achieved, in many parts of the world that had been the scene of bitter conflict.

"But one spot in the world remains immersed in the sea of conflict until this day, resisting even the will for peace that comes from its people." continued King Hussein. "That area is the Middle East".

The King also insisted that Jordan would conclude no partial settlements with Israel over Palestine: "It is our right and we are not bargaining over the Palestine question because it is our cause".
