  • Description

Britain's most modern headquarters and communications warship, H.M.S. Fearless, docked in Aden yesterday (Wednesday). In London the previous day, a Foreign Office spokesman said Britain may be willing to withdraw her forces from the colony before independence, set for 9 January next year.

Fearless, capable of carrying 1,000 soldiers, will remain in South Arabian waters until 21 November. With her direct communications with government headquarters in London, she could be used as the command centre for an early withdrawal of British forces.

But for the moment she has brought a small contingent of reinforcements for the British Army dockworkers in Aden, and some heavy equipment for the dockside.

When she sails on to Bahrain in a few days, she'll be taking a cargo of military vehicles which were yesterday lined up in Aden waiting to be loaded.
