    M. STANISLAS YEDOMON OGNON, MINISTER OF FINANCE OF DAHOMEY, LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A NEW COTTON PROCESSING PLANT ON NOVEMBER 14TH. MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT, DIPLOMATS AND OTHER OFFICIALS WERE PRESENT AT THE CEREMONY.

    M. PIERRE THOMAS, CHAIRMAN OF ICODA, THE COTTON PROCESSING PLANT, SAID THAT IT WILL HAVE A CAPITAL OF 150 CAPITAL MILLION CFA FRANCS (ABOUT 250 -THOUSAND POUNDS STERLING). IT WAS STARTED FOLLOWING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN DAHOMEY AND PRIVATE FIRMS. THE DAHOMEY GOVERNMENT HAS INVESTED 20 MILLION CFA FRANCS IN THE PROJECT. THE FACTORY WILL PURCHASE UNBLEACHED COTTON, IT WILL THEN PROCESS IT THROUGH BLEACHING, DYEING, PRINTING, WASHING AND MAKING IT READY FOR THE TRADE. THE EXPECTED YEARLY TURNOVER IS 600 MILLION CFA FRANCS (GBP1-MILLION STERLING).

    THE DAHOMEY MINISTER OF FINANCE SAID THAT HE WAS REPRESENTING THE PRESIDENT OF DAHOMEY WHO WAS INDISPOSED. AFTER GIVING AN HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY HE SAID THAT THE SETTING UP OF ICODA MARKED THE WISH OF DAHOMEY TO DEVELOP . HE CONCLUDED SAYING THAT DAHOMEY AND AFRICA OFFER FIELDS FOR FRANK CO-OPERATION FOR HAPPINESS AND PEACE.
