Background: In 1928, the former Anglo-Iranian Oil Company first opened its offices in Teheran for the marketing of Iranian Oil products. Even in those days the production of commercial oil and petroleum products had provided a source of economic revenue to Persia for twenty years. In 1953, therefore, the new National Iranian Oil Company thought it fitting to hold a celebration, an assessment and an appraisal of future development under the heading of a 50th anniversary gathering of the backers, technicians, managers and patrons. During the course of a seven day programme representatives of the Iranian Government, the International Oil Consortium. The Iranian National Oil Company and hundreds of foreign guests, toured many oilwalls, attended lectures, refineries and studied plane for future economic and technical development. The programme was inaugurated with a speech by H.R.W. the Shah of Persia who has been in the news lately in connection with his divorce of Queen Seroya. A typical visit was that to the No. 1. 'discovery' well in Masjid-i-Sulaiman. This took places at B.am on the sixth day and among the many guests were 25 long-service employees or pensioners who have followed the fortunes of the industry since its early days.
