Background: The Agenda for the Cairo meeting of the Arab League, which opened on Saturday (March 13th.) was bitterly criticised by one Ambassador who said it was "full of items which had nothing to do with the battle with Israel".

Another subject which, although it was considered to be of considerable importance, was shelved for the time being, was the objection to the possible membership of the League of Oman which, it was claimed, was still under British occupation.

SYNOPSIS: The flags of member nations of the Arab League flew in Cairo as delegates of the League sat down to a session on Saturday which commenced with severe criticism of the agenda and also an objection to the application by Oman for membership. The spokesman for the People's Republic of South Yemen claimed Oman was still under British occupation. The issue was raised when the League's Secretary-General, Mr. Abdel Khalek Hassouna, informed the League's Political Committee of the application for membership. It was agreed to postpone discussion of the question pending a visit to the Gulf area by Mr. Hassouna next month. Syria's Ambassador bitterly criticised the Council's agenda which, according to Mr. Sami Al-Droubi, was full of items which had nothing to do with the battle with Israel. He said it was " a reflection of the sad facts among the Arab Nation".
