    Talks aimed at easing the world energy problem opened in Paris on Monday (7 April).

    Representatives of the major oil consuming and producing countries are attending the talks.

    In his opening address the Chairman of the conference, M. Louis De Guiringaud, France's Ambassador to the United Nations, appealed to the producers and the consumers not to put the blame on each other for the world economic situation.

    The industrial consumers were represented by high level officials from the United States, the European Common Market and Japan while Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria and Venezuela represented the producers.

    The main aim of the conference, which is expected to last a week, is to organize a world conference on the power crisis in July.
