Frisbee, the beach game, has been upgraded to a competitive event. In the United States, a national championship was held recently.
John Kirkland from Massachusetts won the title and in this film he demonstrates his skills.
He says playing frisbee -- a lightweight, plastic plate-like disc that is spun through the air -- is like piloting an aircraft.
Kirkland finds that the freedom -- he calls it the "unattachment to normal physical intuition that one learns playing baseball" -- allows him to be creative.
"It provides a form when you can flow. The movement, the co-ordination and the co-operation between the two people -- as much as in dancing -- is of prime importance."
