Background: President Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire crossed the Congo River to Brazzaville to pay a surprise visit on President Marien Ngouabi last Thursday (6 February).
He was greeted by President Ngouabi and after meeting government officials and ambassadors the two men began talks.
President Mobutu said one of the topics of the talks would be the situation in Angola because decolonisation interests both leaders.
The visit is seen as a move to strengthen ties between Zaire and the Congo. Relations between the two countries have been steadily improving during the last few months after being strained for several years.
