Background: Persia's new Education Minister Darakshesh, in Teheran, May 17, addressed 6,000 State-employed teachers at a rally aimed at demonstrating a new era of good conditions in Persian education.

It followed a week-long teachers strike that brought down the Government both Houses of Parliament.

New Premier Ali Amini took office May 9 at the head of a "reform" cabinet pledging to end abuses in government jobs and improve pay of its employees - in particular, the teachers.

Minister Darakshesh received a vociferous ovation from supporters at the start of the rally. At the end of it, the Minister threw flowers to them.
