Background: The new Japanese Cabinet, announced in Tokyo Dec 8, by Premier Hayato Ikeda shows a number of changes from his administration before last month's general election.

After meeting Emperor Hirohito, the Cabinet posed for photographs. Premier Ikeda has Zentaro Kosaka as Foreign Minister; Naomi Nishimura as chief of the Defence Agency; and Mikio Misuta as Minister of Finance.

They are members of the Liberal-Democratic Party. Political observers in Japan say that they will maintain pro-Western ties based on the controversial United States-Japanese security treaty. Their re-election assures the west of a trusted ally in the Pacific.
