    TORRENTIAL RAINS ON SUNDAY (NOVEMBER 27) NIGHT FLOODED MANY VILLAGES IN THE NORTHWEST PELOPONNESE AREA OF GREECE, CAUSING HEAVY DAMAGE AND DISRUPTING ALL COMMUNICATIONS.

    THE RIVER PYROS OVERFLOWED WEST OF PATRAS AND FLOODED THE AREA TO A DEPTH OF TEN FEET (THREE METRES), BUT NO CASUALTIES HAVE SO FAR BEEN REPORTED.

    MUCH OF THE ELIAS DISTRICT IS UNDER WATER, ROADS HAVE BEEN CUT, BRIDGES DAMAGED, AND ELECTRICITY AND TELEPHONE LINES BROUGHT DOWN.

    THE PATRAS MILITARY COMMAND DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN ALL THE FLOODED AREAS AND RESCUE TEAMS WERE RUSHED IN TO HELP ISOLATED VILLAGES.

    THE GREEK PRIME MINISTER, MR. STEFANOPOULOS, AND SOME OF HIS MINISTERS, LEFT FOR THE AREA YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE.

    THE FLOOD WATER IN SOME AREAS YESTERDAY BEGAN TO RECEDE.
