  • Description

President Anwar Sadat attended a students meeting at the Faculty of Law in Alexandria on Wednesday night (3 May), and reiterated Egypt's rejection of the latest U.S. peace proposals of direct negotiation with Israel and the reopening of the Suez Canal as partial settlement. He also renewed Egypt's determination to fight to win back Israeli occupied lands.

The President's speech contained most of the main points of his May Day speech, the first major address since returning from talks with Soviet leaders in Moscow last week, which resulted in the Soviet Union's strongest support yet for Egypt.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Resident Sadat was at Alexandria's air port to see off libyan President Muammar Gaddafi. The two men had completed three days of talks on the Middle East crisis. President Gaddafi and President Sadat both went to Algeria on Thursday (4 May) for summit talks with President Houari Boumedienne on ways to rally Arab efforts for the expected battle with Israel.
