  • Description

A BOY OF FIVE HAS HAD A PAINTING SELECTED FOR HANGING AT THIS YEAR'S ROYAL ACADEMY SHOW IN LONDON. THREE OF HIS WORKS WERE SUBMITTED FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE ACADEMY ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS BY BRITISH ARTISTS. THE ACADEMY CHOSE THE BOY'S PAINTING, NOT KNOWING WHO IT WAS BY, AND IT NOW GOES ON SHOW.
THE BOY IS LOUIS LYONS, SON OF MR. CLAUDE LYONS, A RETIRED BUSINESSMAN WHO LIVES IN LONDON. IT WAS HE WHO SELECTED THREE OF THE BOY'S PAINTINGS AND SENT THEM FOR CONSIDERATION BY BRITAIN'S TOP ART EXPERTS.
THE PAINTING THAT WAS CHOSEN TO GO ON EXHIBITION WITH THE WORKS OF THE BEST BRITISH PAINTERS, WAS DONE WHEN LOUIS WAS ONLY THREE.
THE PREVIOUS YOUNGEST ARTIST EVER TO BE EXHIBITED AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY WAS LANDSEER IN 1815, WHEN HE WAS 13.
THE SELECTION OF LOUIS LYONS' PAINTING HAS AROUSED SOME CONTROVERSY. CRITICS OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY SAY THAT THOSE WHO CHOSE THE PAINTING SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO CHOOSE THE WORK OF A CHILD.
MR. HUMPHREY BROOKE, SECRETARY OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY, GAVE THE ACADEMY'S VIEW IN THIS INTERVIEW....
