    THE PLENARY SESSION OF THE MINISTERIAL INTER-STATE COMMITTEE OF SENEGAL AND MOROCCO OPENED IN DAKAR ON THURSDAY (18 MAY). IT IS THE FIRST TIME THE COMMITTEE HAS MET SINCE THE ORIGINAL MEETING WHEN IT WAS FORMED IN 1966 WITH THE SIGNING OF A FRIENDSHIP AND SOLIDARITY TREATY.

    FOUR COMMISSIONS WERE SET UP ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE PLENARY SESSION, TO EXAMINE PROBLEMS OF COMMERCIAL EXCHANGES, POSTAL AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES, CULTURAL AND YOUTH PROBLEMS, AND A COMMISSION TO PUSH AHEAD WITH TALKS ON AN AVIATION AGREEMENT.

    DR. AHMED LARAKI, THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, HEADED THE MOROCCAN DELEGATION, AND MR. DOUDOU THIAM THE SENEGALESE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS HEADED HIS COUNTRY'S TEAM.

    MR. THIAM SAID THAT THE MEETING SHOWED THE WILL FOR CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. HE SAID HE WAS VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO WELCOME THE DELEGATES, ON BEHALF OF THE SENEGALESE GOVERNMENT, TO THIS THE FIRST REUNION OF THE COMMITTEE.

    DR. LARAKI SAID THAT SINCE THE COMMITTEE HAD BEEN FORMED, THE MEMBERS HAD WORKED IN THE SPIRIT OF THE CHARTER OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN UNITY, TO SHOW THEMSELVES WORTHY OF THE CONFIDENCE PLACED IN THEM BY PRESIDENT SENGHOR AND KING HASSAN.
